Mid Yukon Kuskokwim Soil and Water Conservation District

I.    Provide Capacity Building for the Mid Yukon Kuskokwim Soil and Water Conservation District

District Manager provides assistance to the NRCS District Conservationist with field surveys and data collection in the Mid Yukon - Kuskokwim Region.

 II.  Provide Conservation Technical Assistance to Mid Yukon - Kuskokwim landowners

MYK SWCD provides brief technical assistance (BTA) to walk in and existing Cooperators /Landowners  through interaction with customers/cooperators in the delivery of NRCS technical material.

III. Develop Stream Bank Erosion Survey in the Mid Yukon Kuskokwim Soil and Water Conservation District

This project will involve survey and documentation of stream bank erosion along the mid Kuskokwim River including the villages of Chuathbaluk, Aniak and Kalskag.

Survey will include field data collection of a minimum of seven critically eroding sites along this portion of the Kuskokwim River.

IV. Continue Development of Mid Yukon Kuskokwim Soil and Water Conservation District Website

MYK SWCD will continue development of a general website with a GIS and Technical Information and products link.

V. Develop High Tunnel Demonstration Project

MYK - SWCD will develop high tunnel demonstration project in Aniak to showcase effectiveness of season extending properties of high tunnel structure.

MYK-SWCD will work in cooperation with District Conservationist to research the effectiveness of a high tunnel project in the village of Aniak. The procedure will involve procurement of locally appropriate seeds; planting of research plots within the high tunnel for the purpose of monitoring the effectiveness of high tunnel technology; collection of data appropriate to the project on a regular schedule and preparation of a poster/brochure highlighting the high tunnel results and organizing presentations to explain and demonstrate high tunnel technology.
